Brosh Pomade Guide: How to Choose the Right Product for Your Hair

Not all pomades are the same. Hold level, finish, and formula all affect the result. Here's how to read the difference across the Brosh range — and find the right one for your hair or your clients.

The core range

Original Hold Pomade

The flagship. Strong hold, medium gloss, water-reworkable throughout the day. Humidity-resistant formula that keeps its grip without going stiff. The herbal aftershave scent is a signature of the range. Works across most hair types and most styles — if a client doesn't know where to start, this is the answer.

Hard Pomade

A step up in both hold and shine. Extra strong, high gloss, built to resist humidity and perspiration through a full day of wear. The right choice for classic pompadours, tight slick-backs, and any style where the shape needs to hold exactly as placed. Less reworkable than the Original — once it's set, it stays set.

Clay Pomade

Medium to strong hold with a clean matte finish. True clay formula — absorbs into the hair rather than coating it, which means genuine root lift and texture without grease or residue. Works well across most hair types, particularly good on thicker hair that needs volume without weight. Water-reworkable. The green tin.

Clay Fiber Pomade

Same hold level as the Clay Pomade but with a fiber component that adds separation and definition. Slightly more structured in feel — better for very thick or coarse hair where you need more grip, or for styles with visible texture and movement. Matte finish. If Clay Pomade is the starting point, Clay Fiber is the step up when more is needed.

Fiber Pomade

Medium hold, natural finish. The lightest product in the range. Separates the hair and builds body without adding weight or shine. Good for shorter textured crops, quiffs, and finer hair that other products can overwhelm. Flexible hold — moves with the hair rather than locking it. Easy to rework.

Super Hard Gel

Maximum hold, wet gloss finish. Part of the BROSH × LINC Blue Velvet collaboration. For styles that need to stay exactly where they're placed — ultra slick looks, high-shine results, barbershop competition-level hold. Not for everyday use, but when maximum control is the brief, nothing in the range comes close.

For sensitive scalps: fragrance-free options

Fragrance is the most common irritant in styling products. Brosh makes two options for clients with sensitive scalps or fragrance sensitivities.

Pomade Unscented — the Original Hold formula without fragrance. Same strong hold, same medium gloss, same reworkable formula — just no scent. Available in 115g and 40g mini. The straightforward swap for any client who loves the Original Hold but reacts to fragrance.

Super Hard Gel Fragrance Free — the same maximum hold gel formula, unscented. Available in 200g and 70g travel size. The right choice for clients who need maximum hold but can't use fragranced products.

Both are worth keeping in stock if you're retailing behind the chair — fragrance sensitivity is more common than most clients admit, and having a dedicated option builds trust.

How to apply

  1. Start with dry or slightly towel-dried hair. Damp hair dilutes water-based pomades and reduces hold.
  2. Take less than you think you need. A pea to a fingernail-sized amount is enough for most styles — Brosh pomades are concentrated.
  3. Warm between your palms for five seconds. This activates the formula and makes it easier to distribute evenly.
  4. Work through from the back and sides first, then the top. This ensures even coverage and avoids build-up at the front.
  5. Style with a comb for sharper lines or fingers for more texture.

For extra volume and grip at the root, use Brosh Base Spray before applying. It adds texture that gives the pomade more to work with.
